Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.
Psalms 81:10 (NKJV)
A family of birds must have become too comfortable with me to the extent of building a nest on a tree a few feet from the balcony. I did not need to move an inch to watch the parents feed their young ones.
It was interesting watching the chicks demand food with their beaks wide open. The parents would then place the worms and other pieces of food into the open mouths. I observed that the wider the mouth of the chick, the larger the morsel the parent placed in it.
I Will Fill the Open Mouth
God appears to be borrowing this analogy of hungry chicks when He pleads with the Israelites, “Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.” (Psalms 81:10). The parent birds represent God. We are like the chicks.
A thought came to my mind. My Father wants to feed me spiritually and materially, but I have a crucial role to play. Like a chick that opens its mouth wide, I must be hungry and thirsty for God to fill me.
Open Your Mouth Wide
It is possible that sometimes, when God wants to feed me, my mouth is closed or slightly opened. These are moments when I feel self-sufficient, thinking I can face life by myself. If I lack or have less than I need, it is not because of God’s reluctance but because of my failure to cooperate with Him.
Are we hungry enough for God to fill us and live within us? Do our prayers, gratitude, and praise reveal our profound thirst for God? How wide open is your spiritual and material mouth? Open your mouth wide and God will fill it.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to realize my deep need for you in all aspects of my life and to reach out for Your help. My ‘mouth’ is open. Fill it, Lord.
