Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
Galatians 6:7 (NKJV)
I arrived home late in the night from a long journey. My deep sleep was cut short by my alarm clock just a few hours later. I needed to take advantage of the heavy rains, which had fallen for two days now, to plant maize and beans.
From Potatoes to French Fries
Across the road, my neighbour was planting Irish potatoes. He called his two infants to assist him. “I want you to know where potato chips come from.” He joked. “When we harvest, we will celebrate with delicious French fries.” He told his children.
I realized that if I wanted potatoes, I would have to borrow from my friend during the harvest. Similarly, he would have to ask me for maize and beans if he needed some. Each of us could only control what he had planted.
Whatever a Man Sows, that He Will also Reap
That is how God designed it. If Paul were present as we planted, he would have stated, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” (Galatians 6:7).
Paul, though, was applying a physical principle in the spiritual realm, according to verse 8: “For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”
Selecting the Spiritual Seed
Our choice of spiritual seed determines our harvest. When we sow seeds of love, forgiveness, kindness, generosity, sympathy and reconciliation, the world responds in kind. Life is like an echo.
Similarly, when we allow the Holy Spirit to dwell in us and cooperate with Him, we harvest “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23).
Why You Should Choose Your Seed Carefully
Every thought, word and action is a seed we are planting. One day, we will harvest whatever we planted, only that this time the harvest will be bigger than what we planted. As my friend and I wait to harvest maize, beans and potatoes, what are you anticipating in the social and spiritual realms?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me to choose my spiritual and social seeds as carefully and I choose real seed because what I sow is what I will reap.

A very true principle… whatsoever is sown so shall we reap.
The level at which we sow determine the level at which we reap.
Sow a little, and you’ll reap a little. Sow a lot, and you’ll reap a lot. Sow inconsistently, and you’ll reap inconsistently. Sow regularly, and you will reap sow bad and reap bad.
Thank you, Doc, for this other insight into the same verse. God bless you.
