But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
According to Collins Dictionary, “if you recharge your batteries, you take a break from activities which are tiring or difficult in order to relax and feel better when you return to the activities.”
Revitalizing the Battery
The experts behind the electric car must have taken this phrase literally. Such a car only requires regular recharging of the battery for it to continue operating optimally, the same way a conventional car requires gas / petrol.
The term ‘recharging batteries’ implies that these vital components of a car lose charge gradually. Hence, the driver or car owner must be vigilant not to let the batteries drain completely. As soon as need arises, it is important to fill the battery with more charge.
God Gives Vigour to the Weak
In the physical and spiritual realms, too, is it necessary to recharge our batteries. As Prophet Isaiah observes, “Even the youths shall faint and be weary and the young men shall utterly fall.” (Isaiah 40:30). All of us are prone to weaknesses and lack of vigour.
In contrast, unlike human beings, “The everlasting God, the LORD. The Creator of the ends of the earth neither faints nor is weary.” (Verse 28). Thankfully, “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might, He increases strength.” (Verse 29).
They Shall Renew their Strength
They Shall Renew Their Strengths
Here is a powerful and beautiful description of those who recharge their batteries at the feet of Jesus: They “Shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint.” (Verse 31).
The cares of this life may drain physical and spiritual vitality out of us. Even those who work for God are susceptible lethargy. A good example is Prophet Elijah, who, after killing 4oo Prophets of Baal, fled after Jezebel threatened him, and wished to die.
How to Invigorate Our Lives
When we understand how vulnerable we are to the discouragement, cajoling and attacks of Satan and His agents, and how this leaves us without energy, we should run to God and ask Him to recharge our batteries.
It is important to pause from our activities, take physical rest, create some time to be alone and turn to God in prayer. Further, because we wait upon the Lord, we should trust Him to grant us new strength to face the world every day.
Recharge Your Batteries
Today, tap into the inexhaustible energy that only God can give you. Because you wait on the LORD, you shall renew your strength. You shall mount up with wings like an eagle. You shall run and not be weary. You shall walk and not faint. Recharge your batteries.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, recharge my physical and spiritual batteries. I want to serve You much longer and to remain strong in all my faculties as I do so.
