Your are God’s Most Precious Possession

Daily Devotional – Friday, December 30, 2022
…for whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye.
Zechariah 2:8 (NKJV)

A strong wind blew in our direction as we were leaving school for home. The dry season was at its peak and the strong gale carried with it loads of dust. We all covered our eyes as if they were our most precious possessions.

The Prized Pupil of the Eye

Whenever our eyes are at risk of damage, the eyelids instinctively close, to shield the pupil from harm. That part of the eye is metaphorically referred to as the ‘apple of the eye’. God used this beautiful imagery to describe His regard for Israel.

While referring to the Lord of Hosts, Prophet Zechariah assured the Israelites, “He who touches you touches the apple of His eye.” (Zechariah 2:8). In essence, God zealously guarded His people the same way we protect the eye’s pupil.

Heaven’s Priceless Property

This verse applies to all believers, past, present and future. God is the Creator of the universe and all that is in it, including angels. However, His most precious possession is Adam’s offspring. Despite our sinfulness and rebelliousness, He loves us unconditionally.

Because of this unfathomable love, God shields us from the devil’s physically and spiritually attacks. Our work is to cooperate with divine agencies. Like Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego, we are privileged to enjoy God’s presence in the midst of trouble.

Keep Me as the Apple of Your Eye

Any person who raises a weapon against the children of God will suffer the same consequences as Haman, the adversary who sought to have Mordechai and all the Jews killed. God will deal with the enemy of His people the way He dealt with Pharaoh for refusing to let the Israelites leave Egypt.

David understood this aspect of God’s character and prayed to the Almighty, “Keep me as the apple of Your eye…” (Psalm 17:8). When we realize we are God’s most precious possessions, we will not fear what mortal humans can do to us.

You are God’s Most Precious Possession

How does knowing you are the apple of God’s eye influence your attitude towards God, yourself and your enemies? What attitudinal and character changes will you make today to demonstrate your appreciation to God for being His most precious possession?

Prayer
Dear Almighty Father, thank You for loving me so much as to make me Your most precious possession.
