The God Who Bends Down to Listen

Daily Devotional – Saturday, December 14, 2023
Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!
Psalm 116:2 (NLT)

The President was attending an official function, occasionally bending forward to listen to speeches and songs from guests. His security team was alert, ready to stop any attack on the head of state.

He Inclined His Ear

A brave five-year old girl, though, outwitted the security men. She ambled towards the president and caught his attention. One guard rushed to stop the girl and whisk her away but the nation’s leader intervened.

He motioned the girl to come to him. The little one went and stood next to the president. The big man bent down to listen to her. No one understood what the two were discussing but the giggles were almost audible to the public.

God Pays Attention

This beautiful picture brings to mind the words of David in Psalm 116:1-2, “I love the LORD because He hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!

David is like a child that has finally fulfilled his dream to meet the King of the Universe. He appreciates God’s gesture of listening to a sinner. Thus, David takes advantage of this privilege to pour out His heart to God.

He Turns His Ear toward Me

God bends down to listen to David. Prayer becomes an opportunity for the psalmist to open his heart to God as to a friend. Indeed, David is not planning to leave the presence of God. “I will pray as long as I have breath!” He exclaims.

Whenever you approach God in prayer, visualize Him bending down to listen to you. He longs to hear your voice more than an earthly father desires to listen to his children. God will give you time and attention as you pour your heart to Him.

The God Who Bends Down to Listen

No problem is beyond His power. No sin is beyond His forgiveness. Jesus assures us, “those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them.” (John 6:37). Will you come trust the God who bends down to listen to you today?

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You because You are always available and ready to listen to me.

Amen! Never met a psalm so powerful and encouraging as this. This gives a Christian the motivation to speak to God. I’m glad, that Our God as great as He is,no place on earth can hold Him,can come so close enough to me , bending to my level just to listen to me.
Praise God.!
