And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28 (NKJV)
In the kingdom of God, every experience counts, whether good or bad. There is a tendency by the son who remained at home to despise his returning prodigal brother. In God’s plan, though, everything we go through before and after meeting Jesus counts in the journey of faith.
From Negative to Positive
I recently heard the story of a man who lives in a nation where Christianity is proscribed. He used to sell drugs, hack computer systems and perform all sorts of evils while hiding from law enforcement authorities.
Later, he accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour but could not share his faith openly. He resorted to his tried and tested method of working underground. Instead of trafficking drugs and hacking websites, he now uses his clandestine network to spread the gospel.
Converted Sinners Spreading the Gospel
His story mirrors that of a pastor who was once a drug addict. Today, he is an effective youth counselor especially for drug addicts. This cleric is more effective in dealing with youth affected by drug abuse than a minister who has never undergone a similar experience.
Another example that demonstrates every experience counts is that of Apostle Paul. First, he was a learned Pharisee, thoroughly conversant with the law and scriptures. Now you understand why Paul’s letters are incisive and well-researched.
All Things Work Together
The apostle also brought the zeal he had as a Pharisee to the Christian faith. He became an indefatigable defender of Christianity and a committed missionary. Paul also continued with his occupation as a tentmaker, thus generating income to support gospel work.
Sometimes when we reflect on experiences, whether good or bad, we feel as if they have no role in our salvation. However, when we allow God to open our spiritual eyes, we can affirm with Paul, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28).
Every Experience Counts
Instead of wasting time carrying the guilt of past mistakes, allow God to show you how He can use your misfortunes to grow your faith and bring others to His kingdom. It was never in vain that you went through good and bad times. Every experience counts in the kingdom of God.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You because every experience counts and You will turn my past into an asset.
