The Role of Praise in Answered Prayer

Daily Devotional – Wednesday, February 8, 2023
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised. So shall I be saved from my enemies.
Psalms 18:3 (NKJV)

In a recent prayer exercise, I noticed we spent a relatively small amount of time praising and thanking God compared to the duration we applied in supplication and confession. A closer examination of scripture, though, reveals that praise has a critical role in answered prayer.

Adoration and Answered Petition

The Christian prayer begins with praise to God. It is an opportunity to acknowledge the greatness, sovereignty, omnipotence, omnipresence and omniscience of God. Praise is ascribing to God the glory that belongs to Him only.

Spending a sizeable chunk of our prayer time praising God fills us with awe. We realize He owns everything and everyone on earth; that nothing is impossible with Him. We marvel at His immense, indescribable and unconditional love.

He is Worthy to be Praised

Consequently, when presenting our petitions to God, we know He is willing and has all the resources we need to meet our needs. The situations that perplex us are nothing before Him. We know that our Father in heaven is the only One we need to know.

Because we know God hears us even before we ask Him, we spend less time in supplication and engage in more thanksgiving. So confident are we in God’s goodness and ability that we even praise and thank Him before we see the manifestation of our requests.

The Role of Praise in Answered Prayer

That is the essence of David’s affirmation in Psalm 18:3, “I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised. So shall I be saved from my enemies.” Because the Lord is worthy to be praised, David calls on Him and is confident the Almighty will answer his (David’s) prayer.

What percentage of your prayer time do you allocate to praising God? Increase that time gradually. Allow God to imbue and inundate you with a sense of His greatness and goodness. That way, your needs will lose their weight. With confidence, you will thank Him for answering your prayers because He is God.

Prayer
I will call upon You, LORD, because You are worthy to be praised. So shall You save me from my enemies.

When you praise someone he/she automatically does things you had not asked for.
Our God is not an exceptional.
