Create in Me a Clean Heart

Daily Devotional – February 12, 2023
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Psalms 51:10 (NKJV)

Whenever I ponder the age we are living in, I find myself asking God to create in me a clean heart oftener. All around us are incentives to entertain impure and sinful thoughts. Satan has placed traps everywhere to lure us from God.

How Satan Poisons the Heart

Today, you will find people walking on our streets while almost naked. Television and social media continue to imbue our minds with nudity and obscenities. Radio airwaves are replete with adult-content that youth and children listen to thus poisoning their minds.

Satan fills our minds with debasing images and thoughts hence convincing us to sin against God. He has been using this trick since time immemorial. One of his most famous victims was King David.

The Consequences of Impure Thoughts

The monarch was at home relaxing while his army was on the battlefield. As fate would have it, Bathsheba, Uriah’s wife, decided to take a bath in the open during the day. David took notice. What followed was adultery and murder to cover up the infidelity.

Later, the penitent king realized the root of his sin. He had entertained impure thoughts. David knew that unless a radical attitudinal change took place in his mind, he would commit the same or other sins.

Make My Mind Pure

Consequently, he prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalms 51:10). In essence, David wanted God to wipe off the filth in the human mind and replace it with unadulterated thoughts.

As the battle for your mind and affection rages, determine to win, by God’s grace. Allow the Holy Spirit to inundate your mind and make a home in it. The Spirit of God cannot dwell in the same mind as polluted thought. He will expel them.

Create in Me a Clean Heart

In addition, heed Paul’s counsel, “whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” (Philippians 4:8).

Prayer
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
