I Am Not Ashamed of the Gospel

Daily Devotional – Saturday, March 4, 2023
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…
Romans 1:16 (NKJV)

In March 2023, Kelsey Grammer, a 68 year-old movie actor stated that he would not apologize for his faith in Jesus. His movie, Jesus Revolution, had elicited criticism in some quarters, considering its religious slant.

I Am Not Ashamed of This Good News

The actor recounted his relationship with Jesus and observed that it had not been an easy journey. Grammer acknowledged having undergone periods of unbelief and anger against God. Eventually, though, He found peace in Jesus.

He boldly confessed, “Jesus is the difference in my life. That’s not anything I’ll apologize for.” Jesus made a difference in my life. That’s not anything I’ll apologise for.” Coming from a senior personality in showbiz, this is a significant statement. It speaks volumes of the depth of this man’s faith, an uncommon phenomenon in modern society.

I Am Proud of the Gospel

Grammer echoes Apostle Paul’s unequivocal affirmation of faith, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…” (Romans 1:16). The apostle wrote these words in the context of severe persecution of First Century Christians by the pagan Roman Empire.

Today, persecution and martyrdom may not be widespread, but the devil has other tricks up his sleeve to lead us away from Christ. For example, some of your friends and enemies may turn you into an object of ridicule when you stand for your faith and refuse to join them in displeasing God.

I Am Not Ashamed of the Gospel

Satan is happy when we shy away from defending our faith. He rejoices when we refuse to be the odd ones out and join the crowd in departing from God. Conversely, heaven rejoices when we confess Jesus in public, both in word and deed. When we let our light shine, God rejoices while Satan cowers in shame.

Are you ashamed of the Gospel? Do you fear that people will know you are a Christian? When people discuss Christianity negatively, do you shy away from defending you faith? Today, say with Grammer and Paul, “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.”

Prayer
Lord Jesus, I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is Your power to save me.
