Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Matthew 10:31 (NKJV)
Sparrows are small birds that have conical beaks and mostly eat seeds. Experts opine that these are the most widely distributes birds in the world. Sparrows love living near human settlements and live in large numbers. Unlike parrots, eagles and other renowned birds, sparrows have little significance to human beings, even when they are kept as pets.
Two Sparrow for a Copper Coin
It is, intriguing, therefore, to hear Jesus using the sparrow as an object lesson. Christ says, “Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:29-31).
What wonderful imagery! Sparrows are not worth much to human beings yet God watches over them keenly. He knows each of them individually, just as He knows the exact number of hairs on our heads. O the unfathomable wisdom of our Heavenly Father! How wonderful is His dealings with His creation, including the tinniest of them!
Of More Worth than Countless Sparrows
Notice the gist of this illustration, in verse 31, “Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Just as God knows each of the innumerable sparrows and other tiny birds, individually, He has a personal and loving connection with each of the 8.05 billion people on earth today!
It does not matter your color, age, ethnicity, education level or socio-economic status. You are more valuable than all the sparrows that God lovingly watches over. Interestingly, God does not treat us as a group but as individuals. Why then should you fear people, circumstances or even the unknown?
More Valuable than Many Sparrows
Whatever challenges you face today, be encouraged because God knows you personally and is watching over you with loving care. Nothing happens for or against you without His notice and approval. Even your seemingly negative experiences have a noble divine purpose. You are more valuable than many sparrows!
Prayer
Loving Heavenly Father, thank You because I am more valuable than sparrows. I am grateful for Your personalized care over me.
