Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O LORD, and teach out of Your law.
Psalms 94:12 (NKJV)
Who is your all-time favourite teacher? Do you recall some of the lessons this instructor taught and the impact they have had in your life? Do you consider yourself blessed to have been a student of this great man or woman?
One Student – Many Teachers
My mother ranks highest on the list of my most influential instructors. My class teacher in First Grade was my second hero-tutor. In high school, my English and Literature teacher, the deputy principal and a teacher in charge of spiritual matters influenced me the most.
Back home, my greatest mentor was a teacher and church elder. He taught me Biblical and life lessons I live by and teach to this day. I consider myself blessed to have sat under his feet and imbibed the wisdom of a godly, mature and experienced professional.
A Student of Gamaliel
Paul, one of the greatest Christian thinkers and writers attributed his wisdom, partly, to a renowned teacher. While addressing a hostile mob in Jerusalem, the apostle stated, “I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, taught according to the strictness of our fathers’ law.” (Acts 22:3).
It was no mean feat to be a student of Gamaliel, a famous thinker and teacher of the law in the First Century (Read Acts 5:34). Now you understand Paul’s in-depth understanding of the law, especially as demonstrated in the letter to the Romans. Paul himself later became a teacher and mentor to Timothy, Titus and many other ministers of the gospel.
The Greatest Instructor
Nevertheless, one teacher towers above Gamaliel, Paul, and all the teachers and professors who taught you and me. In fact, all our teachers derive their greatness from this Tutor. Any lessons that contradict what this Instructor teaches are null and void.
David knew this Teacher personally and was an avid student. As a result, the psalmist wrote, “Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O LORD, and teach out of Your law.” (Psalms 94:12). His name is the LORD and His students are happy now and in eternity.
Happy is God’s Apprentice
When we sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to His words keenly, we gain divine wisdom, which enables us to make decisions in tandem with God’s will. A student of God’s law has a positive influence on other human beings. Her thoughts, actions and words reveal God’s goodness and power.
Is there a better Tutor that the one who created the universe and everything in it, including you? Today, enroll in God’s classroom and let Him be your teacher. Spend time studying His lesson book (the Bible) and communicating with Him through prayer.
Blessed is the Lord’s Student
The tough experiences in the journey of faith, coupled with the enlightening presence of the Holy Spirit in your life will transform your life to an extent that people will notice you have been with Jesus. (Acts 4:13). Besides, you will lead a productive and joyful life. You will be living proof that blessed is the LORD’s student.
