The Role of Attitude in Answered Prayer

Daily Devotional – Monday, April 24, 2023
Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.
Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV)

Now that God knows everything I need even before I ask, why should I pray? How many times have you asked yourself this question or heard other people express the same sentiment? Why does God not just give us what we want and save us so much time praying?

Call to Me

A conversation between God and an incarcerated Prophet Jeremiah will help answer these questions. God tells the prophet, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3).

From the onset, God sets a condition for Him to fill our lives with great and mighty things. We must call to Him. Our first role is to ask of God. Asking results from realizing our deficiency. When we acknowledge we are in need, we create room for God to pack His blessings.

Prayer and God’s Sovereignty

At a higher level, prayer is acknowledging that God is the Sovereign One in our lives and the Owner of the earth and everything in it. It is admitting that without Him, we are ignorant, helpless and lost. You cannot go into prayer genuinely without confessing that the LORD is everything to you.

Acknowledging our need and the power of God over us and our need has a powerful effect on us. It makes a humble. When we come before God, we submit ourselves fully to Him. We set aside our anxieties and allow God to fill us with His unfathomable peace.

The Role of Attitude in Answered Prayer

Prayer is also a commitment to cooperate with God as we seek answers to our prayers. We cannot pray sincerely while at the same time disobeying God. When we commune with God, our hearts must be attuned to Him through a life of fidelity to Him.

Today, as you approach God in prayer, do not look at the clock. Focus on communing with God and listening to His voice more than you telling Him what you need. Spend more time in praise, adoration and thanksgiving, for God knows what you need before you ask.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, teach me to pray with reverence, humility and gratitude.
