Death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)
According to psychologists, the human brain is agreeable to suggestions, whether good or bad. In other words, you can talk to your brain and influence it to believe certain things. In turn, you can act on what you believe. Thus, you must watch your self-talk keenly.
Death and Life are in the Power of the Tongue
A former prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp found out that he retained the freedom to choose his thoughts and attitudes against all the Nazi’s beatings and attempts to influence him negatively. As long as he kept telling himself he was strong and would overcome, his brain accepted that as a fact, and this belief kept him going.
This man understood the principle inherent is this statement, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21). The tongue (which represents speech) is so powerful that it can symbolically kill or give life.
The Power of Avowals
One of the most effective strategies for influencing your mind is affirmations. These positive statements act as autosuggestions to your brain. They are deliberate proclamations directed at your thoughts to affirm your ability to accomplish tasks or to overcome challenges.
Repeated regularly, affirmations alter negative attitudes, thoughts and behaviours and transform you into a positively-minded person. As Christians, God has blessed us with powerful affirmations in the form of Bible promises and other powerful divine proclamations.
Claiming God’s Promises
Here, we sample several affirmations that you can start using for a beginning:
- “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13).
- “… all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28).
- “I am strong.” (Joel 3:10).
- “My God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that I ask or think, according to the power that works in me.” (Ephesians 3:20).
- “O my soul, march on in strength!” (Judges 5:21).
- “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” (Isaiah 54:17).
- “The LORD is my shepherd. I shall not want.” (Psalms 23:1).
Tap Into the Affirming Power of God’s Promises
As you continue reading scripture and personalizing God’s promises, you create hundreds of affirmations you can repeat every day to increase your faith and trust in God. Actually, these pronouncements help you claim God’s promises and reap benefits of doing so.
Memorize Bible promises and verse that will act as affirmations in your life. Before you get out of bed, repeat these pronouncements. Whenever you are in a difficult situation, recite the appropriate avowal. Feed your mind with positive statements on the goodness and power of God every day and you will witness unprecedented personal transformation.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, teach me how to feed my brain on Your promises every day and how to tap on the power of affirmations.
