The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning. He awakens My ear to hear as the learned.
Isaiah 50:4 (NKJV)
Every Christian is an evangelist by calling. Evangelism entails communicating the message of salvation to all and sundry. From the prayer life of Jesus, you will learn how to become an effective communicator and evangelist for the kingdom of God.
Given the Tongue of the Learned
Here is a Messianic passage that explains exactly how Jesus was able to communicate effectively in His ministry. “The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning. He awakens My ear to hear as the learned.” (Isaiah 50:4).
Notice that the Lord’s Servant (a reference to the coming Messiah – Jesus) is equipped with the wisdom and speech of a trained disciple. Thus, He is able to speak or sustain the weary with appropriate words. In other words, God’s messenger undergoes divine education in preparation for daily ministry to weary souls.
He Awakens Me Morning By Morning
How exactly does God impart this education to His Servant? “He awakens Me morning by morning. He awakens My ear to hear as the learned.” The Student attends classes every morning and listens to the Teacher keenly. This communion with the divine Instructor prepares the Messenger to deliver the message effectively to the right audience.
Was the prophecy fulfilled? Yes. Here is Mark’s narration of a unique practice of Christ: “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” (Mark 1:35). Jesus received divine instructions from the Father every morning thus becoming an effective communicator and preacher.
How to Become an Effective Communicator and Evangelist
If we are to excel in evangelism, we need to model the life of Jesus. Around us are people who want to hear the word of God. A word in season may imply encouragement, warning, admonition or another type of message from God. The bottom line is that we must have quality time with God through Bible study, meditation and prayer for us to influence the world with the gospel.
Do you carry the burden of winning souls in your heart? How often do you spend time at the feet of Jesus, listening keenly for instructions? Have you scheduled specific daily appointments with your Heavenly Teacher? If you want to become an effective communicator and evangelist, dedicate your mornings and / or evenings to quality communion with God.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, I will sit daily at Your feet, listening to You, that I may become an effective communicator and evangelist.
