So God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
Exodus 2:24 (NKJV)
For approximately four hundred years, the Israelites were in exile in Egypt. A good portion of that period was spent in slavery. Every day, they made bricks for their masters. Meanwhile, Israelite male infants became an endangered spirit. The children of Jacob might have wondered whether God would hear their groaning.
Your Cries Have Reached Me
The oppression stemmed from jealousy and fear. The exiled nation had increased in number and become wealthy. The Egyptians feared the Israelites would take over the kingdom owing to increasing affluence and power. That is how the idea of turning the Israelites into slaves came about.
A normal Israelite might have wondered what crime he had committed to become a slave in a foreign land. For a couple of centuries, they felt forgotten by the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Their future was also at risk considering Pharaoh had ordered the killing of infant males.
God Heard Their Groaning
“Now it happened in the process of time that the king of Egypt died. Then the children of Israel groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry came up to God because of the bondage. So, God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God acknowledged them.” (Exodus 2:23-25).
That should rank as one of the most motivating passages in scripture! The Israelites groaned and cried because of oppression. God heard their desperate petitions, remembered His covenant with their fathers, and acknowledged them. In essence, their cries were not in vain. Heaven listened and acted by sending Moses to lead the people out of Egypt.
I Have Heard Your Groaning
The same God has time to listen to the spouse whose marriage is falling apart. God still listens and acts. He hears the groaning of a parent whose children are into drugs. Our Father attends to the cries of the patient undergoing treatment in hospital or desperately waiting at home.
If your search for a job is getting tough, remember God hears your groaning and will act at the right time. Trust God to help you through that addiction that is clouding your spiritual path. God remembers you. He will act mightily on your behalf. The Lord has heard your groaning and your exodus from prolonged suffering is about to end.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You because You hear my groaning and will act at the right time to give me salvation and relief.
