The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
Luke 18:27 (NKJV)
In Jesus’ days, people associated prosperity and good health with fidelity to God. Obedience to God would result in a good life and vice versa. However, many overlooked the fact that God often allows His people to undergo suffering and lack as He did with Job.
We now understand the disbelief in Jesus hearers when He said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” (Luke 18:24-25).
Grace Makes the Impossible Possible
How could the rich young ruler who kept the commandments of God not enter heaven? The disciples asked, “Who then can be saved?” (Luke 18:26). Once again, Jesus’ teachings went against popular beliefs.
To explain his statement, Jesus said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” (Luke 18:27). In essence, it is only by the grace of God that man will enter the kingdom of God. Man has nothing good in him to inherit the kingdom of God.
Saved by Grace
Unlike the rich young ruler who attempted to earn righteousness by keeping God’s commandment, we are saved “by grace … through faith… not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
The impossibility Jesus talks about is the gradual transformation of sinners into saints through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Because God specializes in the impossible, heaven will be full of people who the world considers unfit to live in God’s presence.
Prayer
Thank You, Jesus because of Your abundant grace, through which sinners like me, will inherit Your kingdom.
Amen.. Indeed God’s grace is sufficient for every impossibilities we face.
Amen, Doc
