How to Approach the Throne of Grace

Daily Devotional – Wednesday, July 26, 2023
Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV)

The President was attending a public event in my town. People flocked the venue, hoping to capture a glimpse of the most powerful man in the land. Suddenly, a man with a brown in envelope in hand, dashed towards where the President was sitting. In response, the menacing security detail pounced on the poor man and hauled him away.

Let Us Come Boldly to the Throne

That is what happens when you approach a seat of power without permission. Even when you are allowed to, you must demonstrate humility, respect and a measure of fear. Biblical Queen Esther underwent such an experience when she approached the throne of King Ahasuerus (her husband) without permission. She needed to exhibit unprecedented boldness.

Unlike ancient and modern seats of power, there exists a more powerful throne, yet open to all people. According to Paul, Christ, our High Priest in the heavenly temple understands our human predicament. “Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16).

In All Points Tempted As We Are

This is the only throne you can approach without fear because Jesus is a High Priest who has undergone the human experience and understands your weaknesses. He knows the power of temptations on severely weakened human senses. There is no temptation you will face that Jesus did not experience.

Moreover, because He “was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15), He is willing to give you the power to overcome temptations and sin. Our gracious and merciful Saviour does not leave us to face sin alone because without Him, we will be cheap prey for Satan.

How to Approach the Throne of Grace

There is a condition, however, for victory. Despite your weaknesses and guilt, you must approach the throne of grace with boldness and request God for His forgiveness and the power to overcome sin. Never allow sin to keep you away from Jesus for His forgiveness and grace are available whenever you are in need.

Today, you need to demonstrate unprecedented boldness and come to God. With the assurance that He will accept and help you, run into His welcoming arms. You have no reason to remain under the bondage of guilt and sin. Reach out to Jesus and you will become a victor.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, today I come boldly to Your throne of grace, that I may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need
