Daily Devotional – Saturday, July 5, 2025
Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid nor dismayed before the king of Assyria, nor before all the multitude that is with him; for there are more with us than with him.
2 Chronicles 32:7 (NKJV)
King Hezekiah is not at ease. The Assyrians are threatening to attack and annihilate the kingdom of Judah. Already, King Sennacherib has destroyed the ten tribes of the northern kingdom of Israel and dispersed the inhabitants among other nations.
The Multitude with Him
The Assyrian army is large in soldier numbers, weaponry, and experience. Judah is a dwarf in comparison. Nevertheless, Hezekiah prepares himself for any attacks and trusts the Lord to fight for His people. The king understands that human effort plus divine power wins battles.
The king, however, must bring his people on board the faith chariot. To paraphrase the king: “I know many of you are worried because of the mighty Assyrian army, despite our defensive preparations. However, we may be fewer than the Assyrians, but with God on our side, we are the majority.”
When Minority Is the Majority
“With Sennacherib is an arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” (verse 8). The people now feel empowered and ready to face the enemy. Later in the chapter, we learn that God defeats the enemy and saves His people.
Which challenges, big or small, do you face today? What steps have you taken so far to address the challenges? How does it feel to know that you are on the side of the majority despite appearing to be alone? With God on your side, who can defeat you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You because even when I am surrounded by enemies and challenges, You and I are the majority, and winners for that matter.
